.KEY MESSAGES...
* Dry and mild weather prevails this weekend with brisk winds
tonight into Sunday morning.
* A warming trend early next week will produce near record warmth
and increased streamflows due to snowmelt.
* There is a slight chance of showers on Tuesday and Wednesday,
otherwise dry weather is favored next week.

.DISCUSSION...
At least one shower was able to mature into a thunderstorm in far NW
Lassen County early this morning (around 1 AM), but coverage and
intensity of showers has decreased since. Still, a few showers and
perhaps a stray thunderstorm may develop for areas in NW Lassen
County and near the Oregon border through daybreak.
The remainder of the weekend is poised to be dry and mild with
daytime highs near 60 and 70 degrees today and Sunday for Sierra and
western Nevada locales. Another cold front will advance through the
region tonight into early Sunday, supporting a brief period of brisk
N/NE breezes across NW Nevada and portions of NE California.
Increased winds arrive to and west of Sierra ridges early Sunday,
perhaps sneaking down into the Tahoe Basin around mid-morning.
Should this occur, there may be unusually choppy waters on Lake
Tahoe until winds subside in the early afternoon.
The weather pattern remains progressive as high pressure rebuilds
overhead early next week. In response, temperatures will become well
above average during the first half of the upcoming week, and
likely come within a few degrees of breaking daily record highs.
Warmer weather will likely increase flows on area creeks and
streams due to snowmelt, but any flooding impacts (if any at all)
will be minor and brief. Tuesday and Wednesday may feature
showers and thunderstorms in the Sierra (mainly south of Tahoe) as
a cluster of cut-off lows in the eastern Pacific not only weakens
the high pressure aloft, but deepens upper troughing near the
West Coast. Still some uncertainty with this pattern, but we`ll
maintain at least a 10-20% chance of showers on these days.

.AVIATION...
Widespread VFR conditions prevail this weekend with W/NW gusts
around 20 kts this afternoon. A cold front will bring increased N/NE
breezes tonight into Sunday morning, especially at KLOL/KNFL/KHTH.
Increased Sierra ridge winds may yield turbulence from the Sierra
crest westward into California Sunday morning before winds subside
in the afternoon.
